Still tied with South Umpqua at the number two spot
The Douglas Trojans edged Siuslaw in five sets on the volleyball court last night to hand the Vikings their fourth Far West League loss of the season. Siuslaw won the first two games, 25-16 and 25-18, before the Trjojans swept the next three for the match victory. Hannahleah Jakobsen had 28 digs and played outstanding defense according to Coach Angie Herring, who added Hanna Bartlett was perfect at the service line with 12 points. Bartlett also had 25 assists, 2 kills and 23 digs.
The Vikings are tied with South Umpqua for second place. Each has matching five-and-four league records. Siuslaw holds the ‘tie-breaker’ on the basis of sweeping South Umpqua in the regular season. The Lancers fell to league-champion Marshfield in three sets last night.
Siuslaw will end the regular schedule tomorrow at North Bend… South Umpqua will wrap up in Brookings.
State 4A Cross Country poll: Siuslaw girls still number one
The Siuslaw girls cross country team remains atop the 4A coaches’ poll for the fifth straight week. The Lady Vikings picked up all eight first place votes once again. Sisters is the unanimous 2nd place pick with Molalla ranked third. The North Bend Bulldogs and South Umpqua Lancers are very close at numbers four and five.
The Viking boys have fallen out of the top ten, but did receive a few votes. Valley Catholic is still ranked number one.
Siuslaw will host the 3-K fun “run for the brownies” tomorrow at Sandpines Golf Links.
