NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) – Rescuers used concrete drills and jack hammers to free an employee whose arm got caught in a floor drain at a Fred Meyer store in Newberg. She tried for 20 minutes to free herself before calling for help. KGW-TV reports that Newberg firefighters were unable to free her using oil and soap, so they called in a technical rescue team from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Oregon beachgoers could soon see a spike in health advisories warning against water contact. State officials are proposing more stringent criteria for the level of bacteria that triggers a warning. The new rules would go into effect in 2017 to meet new federal water-safety standards.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Bend police say they’ve arrested three men for shooting at their former middle school. The Bend Bulletin reports that the trio was arrested Saturday after two maintenance workers were inside Cascade Middle School when the shots were reported Friday night. No student activities were going on. Police found damage from bullets in at least two areas of the school.
