MEACHAM, Ore. (AP) – Umatilla County Sheriff’s officials say a man has died after his father apparently shot him while the two were deer hunting. The East Oregonian reports 47-year-old David Branze of Gresham was hunting with his father, Louis Branze. Deputies say Louis Branze had fired a shot at a deer and apparently struck and killed David Branze.
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama is bringing words of comfort and sympathy to grieving families of victims of the shooting rampage in Roseburg. He also will mute his message about new action against gun violence as he visits an area where firearms are popular. Obama will talk privately with family members today at the start of a four-day West Coast trip.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Police say three young people suspected in the shooting death of a tantra yoga teacher in Marin County are now accused of killing a Canadian woman in San Francisco. Police say the three will be charged with murder in the shooting death late last week of Audrey Carey. The report came shortly after police in Portland booked the three suspects on murder warrants.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – An archaeological excavation permit issued by the state shows that historical artifacts may have been unearthed at the Whole Foods Market construction site in Eugene. The Register-Guard reports the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office issued an excavation permit Sept. 28, which authorizes surveying and other work for removal of historic materials.
