SEATTLE (AP) – Colby Rasmus’ broken-bat RBI single capped Houston’s rally from a three-run deficit, and the Astros retook the lead in the race for the second AL wild-card spot, beating the Seattle Mariners 7-6 last night. A day after being passed by the Angels, the Astros moved back in front of Los Angeles, which lost at home to Oakland.

SEATTLE (AP) – Mariners ace Felix Hernandez is done for the season after manager Lloyd McClendon decided not to have the right-hander pitch on the final weekend. McClendon said it wasn’t worth the stress on Hernandez’s arm to have him make one more start against Oakland. Hernandez will finish the season with an 18-9 record and 3.53 ERA.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) – Seattle Sounders defender Chad Marshall was taken from practice on a stretcher yesterday after suffering an injury to his head and neck area. Marshall was taken to a hospital in an ambulance as a precaution. Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said Marshall fell and hit his head after colliding with a teammate during a drill.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) – Chip Lutz and Tom Brandes advanced to the U.S. Senior Amateur final yesterday at Hidden Creek Golf Club. The 60-year-old Lutz, from Reading, Pennsylvania, beat Tim Jackson of Germantown, Tennessee, 1 up, and the 59-year-old Brandes, from Bellevue, Washington, topped Steven Liebler of Irmo, South Carolina, with a birdie on the 21st hole.
