EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene police are closer to purchasing about 170 body cameras thanks to a $249,000 grant the department has received from the U.S. Department of Justice. The Register-Guard reports the grant will help the department outfit officers, sergeants and detectives with the devices. The Assistant Police Chief says he hopes to have most of the officers using body cameras next year.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland-based grocer New Seasons Market is backing an increase in the Oregon minimum wage. The company says it’s not endorsing any specific ballot measure or legislative proposal. New Seasons also says it will raise its own starting wage from $10 to $12 an hour in January. But chief executive Wendy Collie says individual employers can only do so much on their own.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by oil companies challenging an Oregon carbon-reduction mandate. The judge ruled that Oregon’s low-carbon fuel standard does not violate federal law or the U.S. Constitution. American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, the organization that filed the lawsuit, could not immediately be reached for comment after business hours.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have identified a man fatally shot in a northeast Portland neighborhood as 30-year-old Stephen McCorvey. A 41-year-old woman was wounded in the Wednesday night gunfire. Her name has not been released. The Oregonian reports that investigators have not made an arrest or released much information.
