Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

UNDATED (AP) – The Seattle Mariners are traveling to Missouri to face off against the Kansas City Royals tonight. The Mariners are coming off a 9-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.

DENVER (AP) – Starling Marte homered among his four hits and came within a triple of the cycle, and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Colorado Rockies 9-3 last night. Aramis Ramirez went deep and Jody Mercer had four hits for the Pirates, who reduced their magic number for clinching a postseason berth to two. A win today and a San Francisco loss would clinch at least a wild card for the third straight season.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) – Chicago Bears coach John Fox says quarterback Jay Cutler has a strained hamstring. Fox spoke a day after Cutler was injured trying to make a tackle after getting intercepted in Sunday’s 48-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. His status for this week’s game against defending NFC champion Seattle is in question.

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) – A preliminary look into how much it cost Pierce County to host the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay this year found that county taxpayers will cover about $700,000 of the $2 million price tag for security. The News Tribune reports county officials say they’ll break even at the very least from June’s sporting event. The largest public expense from the event was security costs.
