SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Critics of a plan to build a bottled water plant in Cascade Locks hope to take their case to the voters of Hood River County. A spokeswoman for the group Local Water Alliance says water shouldn’t be trucked out of state in a time of drought. She says the group is going to county voters because city and state officials haven’t stopped the plant. A county elections official says the group would need to collect just under 500 signatures from registered voters.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Days after agreeing to hold a hearing about Planned Parenthood, Oregon House Democrats have changed their minds. The House Speaker says she believes Republicans would have turned the hearing into a “political stunt.” A House GOP spokeswoman says the move “stifles dialogue.”

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A Medford city council member says he’ll challenge U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden in next year’s Democratic primary. The Mail Tribune reports Kevin Stine faulted Wyden’s vote for an Asia-Pacific trade deal and his work with Republican Rep. Paul Ryan on a Medicare plan that would have allowed private insurers to compete with Medicaid.

VALE, Ore. (AP) – Investigators say a GPS error may have led a man astray in a remote part of Oregon before he was found dead after a weeklong search. Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe tells the Argus Observer that 69-year-old Silas Wrigley appears to have missed a turn to a lake while using a GPS system. Wolfe said investigators cannot prove it.
