ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Hisashi Iwakuma followed his no-hitter by limiting Texas to two runs and five hits over seven innings as the Seattle Mariners beat the Rangers 3-2 last night. All of Seattle’s scoring came in the first inning on three extra-base hits, including Seth Smith’s 10th home run of the season. Iwakuma (5-2) gave up a hit to Texas’ second batter, a single by Shin-Soo Choo.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Officials at the Little League Softball World Series required teams from Washington and Iowa to play a tie-breaker game yesterday after receiving reports that some teams “did not play with the effort and spirit appropriate” for Little League play. The dispute arose after the Snohomish, Washington, team was no-hit Monday by a team from Salisbury, North Carolina.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks released long snapper and U.S. Army veteran Nate Boyer. Boyer was signed by Seattle as an undrafted free agent in May. He played five snaps against the Broncos on Friday night. He was competing with incumbent Clint Gresham for the starting long snapper job. He was a long shot to make Seattle’s roster as Gresham signed a new three-year contract with the team this offseason.
LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (AP) – Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is known for challenges in the kitchen, but he was in Lake Stevens for a different kind of competition. The Daily Herald of Everett reports that Ramsay competed in the Lake Stevens Ironman 70.3 Sunday, finishing the race in five hours, 50 minutes and 31 seconds. Ramsay finished No. 331, in the top third of racers.
