The helicopter crew later hoisted the man to the hospital.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The Astoria City Council is considering a ban on tobacco use in city parks. The Daily Astorian reports that the council will discuss the potential ban today. Clatsop County banned smoking in county parks earlier this year, but Warrenton, Gearhart, Seaside and Cannon Beach do not prohibit smoking. The county ban took effect in June.

OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon winery owner and his investors are asking Lane County to redesignate forestland near Oakridge so he can open a gravel mine. The Register-Guard of Eugene reports that Ed King is proposing to expand a small quarry that has not been operational since the 1980s. The area is outside the city limits, but near 13 rural residences.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon and Oregon State University are teaming up to help residents learn more about state history.
