SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon will allow marijuana sales to adults beginning Oct. 1, nearly a year sooner than originally planned. Gov. Kate Brown signed a bill allowing existing medical marijuana dispensaries to temporarily sell the drug to all adults. Consumers will be allowed to purchase limited quantities of dried marijuana, seeds and plant starts, but not edibles.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Gov. Kate Brown is ordering state agencies to cut back on their water use. Brown has issued an executive order setting a goal of reducing water consumption by 15 percent on average for state-owned property. The order suggests that agencies evaluate their landscaping, fountains and window-washing. It says agencies should consider a moratorium on new landscaping that uses water and suggests placing signs that remind employees to reduce non-essential water use.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Oregon Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden is blocking a bill that would require social media and online sites like Google, Yahoo, Twitter and Facebook to alert federal authorities of any terrorist activity. The social media requirement was tucked into a broader bill authorizing intelligence programs for the 2016 budget year. According to Wyden, Senate leaders had hoped to pass the bill by unanimous consent, bypassing any debate.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says searchers have located a 35-year-old Portland woman who apparently fell and became disoriented while hiking alone in the Three Sisters Wilderness. A spokesman says another hiker came across the woman in the area of south Green Lake and called for help yesterday morning. Search and rescue volunteers carried her out on a wheeled litter.
