PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office says it arrested a 34-year-old woman for boating while intoxicated after the propeller of the pontoon boat she was steering struck a swimmer’s leg. KGW-TV reports that the accident happened after the pontoon boat crashed near the Fremont Bridge over the Willamette River.

RENO, Nev. (AP) -Scientists are helping federal forest and range managers expand the use of cameras to spot wildfires. The goal is to detect fires faster, especially in unpopulated areas where fires can burn several hours or even days before anyone reports them. A camera placed on Midas Peak north of Battle Mountain spotted a fire more than 100 miles away in Oregon.

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) – Police say an 18-year-old Everett man suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting yesterday. The Daily Herald reports that Everett Police spokesman said police did not immediately have information on a motive or potential suspect.

SEATTLE (AP) – Washington state’s 39 counties are draining their budgets trying to keep their communities safe, and when they have to prosecute a big murder case some fear they’ll end up bankrupt. Counties have spent more than $23.2 million in the past five years investigating and prosecuting people charged with aggravated murder – a killing involving multiple victims or some other aggravating circumstance. A criminal justice law lets counties ask for reimbursement for expenses from complex murder cases. Of the $23.2 million requested by all counties, the state has released $3.4 million.
