DETROIT (AP) – Nick Castellanos hit a grand slam off the brick facade in left-center field, part of an eight-run third inning for the Detroit Tigers in their 9-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. Anibal Sanchez (10-7) won his seventh straight decision, and Ian Kinsler had four hits for the Tigers, who rebounded from an ugly 11-9 loss the previous night. Nelson Cruz homered twice for Seattle.

SAN DIEGO (AP) – Brandon Belt hit a tying solo home run in the sixth inning and Buster Posey hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the seventh to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-1 victory over the San Diego Padres yesterday. Matt Cain pitched six strong innings in his fourth start of the season for the defending World Series champions, who took two of three and have won eight of nine overall.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Thorns say their match against rival Seattle Reign last night was the first sellout in team history. The Thorns sold 21,144 tickets to the match at Providence Park, which will make it the largest crowd ever for a National Women’s Soccer League game. The Reign won 1-0 on Kim Little’s goal in the 57th minute.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Timbers will travel to Texas to face off against FC Dallas this week. The Timbers hope to bounce back after a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Cascadia Cup rivalry match.
