PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A divide is emerging among groups that want to raise Oregon’s minimum wage that could lead to competing proposals on the 2016 ballot. A group of labor unions and liberal activist groups says it will push to set the wage floor at $13.50 while allowing cities to go higher. Meanwhile, a separate group that’s already collecting signatures for a $15 statewide minimum wage says it will continue fighting for the higher rate.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon psychologist who billed a religious organization for work never performed has pleaded guilty to mail fraud. Carol Landesman of Gresham entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Portland. Judge Michael Mosman set sentencing for Nov. 2.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A man facing an Aug. 11 trial for sex abuse alongside Oregon gay rights activist Terry Bean has been sentenced in a separate meth possession case. The Eugene Register-Guard reports 26-year-old Kiah Lawson was sentenced to probation and 20 days in jail for possessing meth and supplying contraband.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A completely overgrown property in Salem has now been cleaned up. The Statesman Journal reports the home was nearly completely hidden behind a jungle of tall bushes and weeds. City officials said they sent a notice to the owner of the property requesting the bushes overgrowing the fence be trimmed. The bushes are now gone and the house is visible from all angles.
