PENDLETON, Ore. CAPE BLANCO, Ore. (AP) – A Coast Guard rescue swimmer swam through 57 degree water to rescue four fishermen near Cape Blanco yesterday. The Coast Guard says Petty Officer 2nd Class Darren Harrity swam in 5-foot seas and 30 mph winds to rescue the men after their vessel grounded and started taking on water.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Marion County park is closed until at least Friday after workers saw three bears wandering in the area. The Statesman Journal in Salem reports a black bear and her two cubs were seen yesterday at North Fork County Park, near Mehema. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife told county officials to pull garbage cans from the park so there would be no food sources for the bears.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Zoo is asking the public to vote on a rescued otter pup taking up residence there. KATU-TV reports you can cast your vote online through next week. The zoo is offering three choices, based on waterways where the otter was found. The pup is in his second week of a month-long quarantine at the zoo’s Veterinary Medical Center.
