PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Multnomah County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating after an inmate was found dead in his cell in Portland. The Oregonian reports that Lloyd Virnig of Sandy was found dead Friday. The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and says there were no obvious signs of foul play.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – A man suspected of leaving a chemical device in the Klamath County Jail has been arrested. The Herald and News reports a 34-year-old transient turned himself in at the Klamath Falls police department. An investigation into the chemical makeup of the device is still being conducted.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A missing service weapon belonging to a Marion County sheriff’s deputy has been located. The .45-caliber Glock pistol was turned in Wednesday afternoon at the Oregon State Police office in Albany, two days after it went missing. Sgt. Jeff Stutrud tells the Statesman Journal that it was found by a construction worker in Salem.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters credit a bystander with saving a woman’s life when he broke a window and pulled her from a burning vehicle at a Beaverton gas station. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue says the vehicle and a gas pump were in flames when firefighters arrived Saturday. The woman was taken to a hospital with smoke inhalation. The bystander was treated at the scene for minor cuts.
