NEW YORK (AP) – Mark Teixeira homered with two outs in the eighth inning, and the New York Yankees rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners yesterday for a series win. Both Cy Young Award winning starters, CC Sabathia and Felix Hernandez, were done after six impressive innings with the score tied 1-all. Teixeira, who had three hits, connected on a 1-2 pitch from former closer Fernando Rodney (2-4).

PHOENIX (AP) – Madison Bumgarner and four relievers scattered nine hits and Justin Maxwell homered, helping the San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 yesterday. Bumgarner (10-5) pitched five innings for the win, allowing a run and four hits with three strikeouts and a walk in his first start since July 10. The Giants won their sixth straight game and swept their second straight three-game series.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Timbers will travel to Texas to face off against FC Dallas this week. The Timbers hope to bounce back after a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Cascadia Cup rivalry match Saturday night.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Sounders travel to Canada to face off against the Montreal Impact this week. The Sounders hope to recover have a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids. Seattle lost for the fifth in six games, and has been shut out in four of those.
