CINCINNATI (AP) – Mike Trout flashed the skill that puts him at the front of baseball’s new generation, just moments after four of the all-time greats had just walked off the field. The AL beat the NL 6-3 last night and will open the World Series at home for the 10th time in 13 years.

NEW YORK (AP) – Elena Delle Donne is the leading vote-getter for the WNBA All-Star Game. The league’s leading scorer will be joined on the Eastern Conference team by Indiana’s Tamika Catchings, who will be playing in a record 10th All-Star Game. Tulsa guard Skylar Diggins leads the West All-Stars. Diggins, who tore her ACL a few weeks ago and will miss the game, is joined by Minnesota’s Seimone Augustus in the backcourt. Maya Moore of Minnesota, Brittney Griner and Candice Dupree of Phoenix will start in the front court.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A former Salem youth basketball coach who pleaded guilty to raping a girl under the age of 16 has been sentenced to eight years and four months in prison. The Statesman Journal reports 39-year-old Arthur Nigel Chavez was charged with five counts of first-degree rape and one count of first degree sodomy in December 2014. He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree rape and was sentenced June 16.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Francisco Rivera intercepted a pass and scored in the 83rd minute, and Club America rallied to beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 last night. Andres Andrade scored for Club America, which lost Dario Benedetto to a possible fractured ankle in the first half.
