NEW YORK (AP) – Toronto FC’s Michael Bradley and Seattle’s Clint Dempsey headline eight U.S. national team players on the MLS All-Star team that will face English Premier League club Tottenham on July 29. Bradley and Dempsey will be joined by U.S. teammates Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, DaMarcus Beasley, Graham Zusi, Benny Feilhaber and Nick Rimando.

UNDATED (AP) – A federal lawsuit filed in San Francisco is trying to force Major League Baseball to install protective netting from foul pole to foul pole to protect spectators from flying bats and balls. The lawsuit does not ask for monetary damages. Instead, it asks the court to compel Commissioner Rob Manfred to extend the screens that typically cover only a few sections behind the plate all the way down the first- and third-base lines. The commissioner’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

SEATTLE (AP) – Evelyn Jones spent part of her 108th birthday making history as the oldest person to throw the first pitch at a Seattle Mariners game. KIRO-TV reports Jones climbed the mound July 11, throwing the first ball before the 7:10 p.m. game. Jones lives in Woodville, Washington and is an avid Mariner’s fan.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – A person with knowledge of the details says the Orlando Magic have agreed to trade forward Maurice Harkless to the Portland Trail Blazers for a future second-round draft pick. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been officially announced. The trade was first reported by Yahoo Sports.
