BEND, Ore. (AP) – While many have sung the praises of on-body police cameras, some departments in Central Oregon aren’t sure they can foot the bill. Bend Police Chief Jim Porter says a new state law regulating the use of the cameras has the Bend Police Department rethinking its plan to outfit every cop with a camera. Porter said in an interview last week he wasn’t certain there was room in the department’s approximately $43 million biennial budget to implement the technology, train officers and hire a new employee to redact personal information.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Portland man has been sentenced to nearly 48 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in Salem in 2014. The Statesman Journal reports that 28-year-old Jordon Perkins was found guilty in May.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. government has filed papers to garnish the wages of a Portland State University official, to make him pay more in restitution for his role in a pair of eco-anarchist fire bombings. The Oregonian reports Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathleen Bickers filed a writ of garnishment against 33-year-old Jacob D.B. Sherman last week.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man involved in a confrontation at the Portland International Raceway has died from his injuries. Portland Police say 61-year-old Anthony Mancuso died of injuries sustained in a fight between the families of two motocross riders. According to the Oregonian, 50-year-old Michael Taylor told county court officials that he was defending his son, a motocross rider, from bullying by another rider and his father.
