Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Democrats in the Oregon House of Representatives have elected a new majority leader. Lawmakers have selected Rep. Jennifer Williamson of Southwest Portland for the No. 2 position in the House after Speaker Tina Kotek, also a Portland Democrat. She replaces Rep. Val Hoyle of Eugene, who gave up the job while she explores a run for secretary of state.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon school district has rushed to soothe parents at one Salem elementary school who received a letter warning that children not picked up promptly might be turned over to the state. The Salem Statesman Journal reports that a Salem-Keizer School District spokesman confirmed the letter about the upcoming school year was sent recently to Swegle Elementary School parents. However, district spokesman Jay Remy says it was sent in error and was neither accurate nor courteous.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Police who responded to a reported burglary attempt found themselves in a brawl with a suspect before eventually arresting the man near Woodland Meadow Park. The Gazette-Times reports 37-year-old Michael Douglas pleaded guilty to multiple charges connected to the incident.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Police detectives in the Portland suburb of Beaverton are trying to track down a man who tied men’s underwear around his face when he robbed two convenience stores. They’re aided in this effort by the fact that a man who appears to be wearing the same shirt, jeans and shoes is clearly shown in other store surveillance photos – without the underwear “mask.” The two Plaid Pantry robberies occurred at different stores on July 1.
