PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Aloha woman accused of trying to suffocate her children when they were babies has pleaded guilty to criminal mistreatment. The Oregonian reports that Rosa Vasquez-Vasquez told investigators that when her now-4-year-old was 18 months old she put a plastic bag over his head. She also said that when her now 2-year-old was one month old she pushed his face into a mattress. Vasquez-Vasquez came forward to report that she was a victim of long-term abuse when she admitted her actions. Both children survived.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – A former president of Forest Grove Little League Softball has turned himself in after learning there was probable cause for his arrest in connection with funds that went missing from the team. The Oregonian reports that Esteban Aleman is accused of spending $4,500 on non-league business, including ATM withdrawals and equipment for a separate youth softball league he is involved with.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police have identified a woman found dead in a pond as 27-year-old Justine Malmberg. Sgt. Pete Simpson said yesterday the medical examiner determined the Portland woman accidentally drowned in the pond at Laurelhurst Park.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – State Rep. Tobias Read is running for Oregon treasurer. Read worked at the U.S. Treasury Department during Bill Clinton’s administration. He’s a former Nike product developer who was first elected to the state House in 2006. He says the treasurer’s office is integral to the state’s financial health.
