SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Investigators say a man who hanged himself in his Lane County Jail cell had told police he fatally shot his mother by mistake while he and his father were arguing about immigration, then killed the older man. Jeremy Ringquist had been arrested on two counts of aggravated murder. Police said Ringquist hid the bodies in a chest-style freezer in the home.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Health officials are investigating an outbreak of norovirus at a Portland hospital that sickened more than 30 people working in the pediatric intensive-care unit. The Oregonian reports that no patients were sickened at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, but a number of nurses, doctors and staff members fell ill.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man accused of stabbing a Portland police officer in the hand has pleaded not guilty to charges in the fracas on Sunday. The Oregonian reports that David Ellis appeared in court yesterday for arraignment. Police say Ellis stabbed Officer Jose Jimenez in the hand Sunday after the officer and his partner suspected the man was trying to burglarize a police contact office.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Washington woman is dead after falling from her horse while preparing to take part in a Civil War re-enactment in Oregon. The Salem Statesman Journal reports that Tammy Stillwell of Langley was about to head into the re-enacted battlefield at Willamette Mission State Park when her horse took a turn into the woods where she was knocked off her horse by a tree branch.
