SEATTLE (AP) – Nick Castellanos hit a home run and drove in four runs to lead a 19-hit outburst from the Detroit Tigers in a 12-5 win over the Seattle Mariners yesterday. Castellanos had a season-high four hits and matched a season best with four RBIs. Victor Martinez added four hits, while J.D. Martinez had three hits and two RBIs.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Jonathon Niese pitched eight sharp innings for his first win in nearly two months, and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 3-0 last night to hand the World Series champions their seventh straight defeat. Johnny Monell snapped a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the ninth against his former team. Michael Cuddyer had two hits, including a single that started the winning rally, to help the Mets improve to 3-1 on a six-game West Coast trip.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -The Portland Timbers will be working this week to prepare for their game against the Philadelphia Union. The Timbers hope to keep up the momentum they gained on Sunday in their 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes. Portland thought it took the lead in the 87th minute, when substitute Gaston Fernandez headed in a cross from Alvas Powell, but the Timbers’ forward was ruled offside and the goal was waved off.

UNDATED (AP) -The Seattle Sounders will travel to Illinois to face off against the Chicago Fire this Saturday. The Sounders are coming off a 1-0 victory over the DC United. Chicago is coming off a 1-1 tie against the Houston Dynamo.
