SALEM, Ore. (AP) – House lawmakers have approved a measure ordering schools in Oregon to make public the number of vaccinated students they have enrolled in their classes. Oregon has one of the highest rates of kindergarten students using a personal belief waiver to opt out of one or more vaccinations. Lawmakers have been trying to reduce those rates, saying a high number of immunized students protects those who can’t get the shots themselves.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The fate of an Oregon bill allowing retail marijuana sales to begin Oct. 1 lies with Gov. Kate Brown. Possession and use of limited amounts of marijuana became legal on Wednesday, but there’s no place for pot users to legally buy the drug. The bill would temporarily allow tax-free retail sales through existing medical marijuana dispensaries beginning Oct. 1.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Eugene investigators say four boys were playing with fire in the press box of the town’s historic Civic Stadium, but the flames got out of control and burned down the ballpark. Investigators say that as flames spread, the panicked boys jumped a chain-link fence, hopped on their bicycles and fled. The four are to be charged with arson. One is 10, the others 12.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Owners of a Portland-area bakery that denied service to a same-sex couple must pay $135,000 in damages. Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries has ruled that Sweet Cakes by Melissa’s refusal to bake a wedding cake for Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer constituted unlawful discrimination. They can still file an appeal with the Oregon Court of Appeals.
