SAN DIEGO (AP) – Rookie left-hander Mike Montgomery took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and finished with a one-hitter for his second straight shutout as the Seattle Mariners beat the San Diego Padres 5-0 last night. Making his sixth major league start, Montgomery opened the seventh by getting Justin Upton on a fly to left. Yangervis Solarte hit Montgomery’s next pitch into the left-field corner for a double.

UNDATED (AP) – A person with direct knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to terms with veteran forward Al-Farouq Aminu on a four-year, $30 million deal. The Blazers and Aminu quickly reached accord last night, shortly after free agency opened. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced.

SEATTLE (AP) – Sue Bird scored 17 points and rookies Jewell Loyd and Ramu Tokashiki combined for 25, including seven in the last three minutes as the Seattle Storm ended a five-game losing streak with a 74-69 win over the Tulsa Shock last night. Crystal Langhorne added 15 points for the Storm (3-7), who had lost their previous three games by a total of nine points, including a 93-89 loss at Tulsa on Sunday.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Auburn and Oregon will open the 2019 season at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, nine seasons after meeting in the BCS national championship game. The matchup on Aug. 31, 2019 is part of a series of Labor Day weekend season openers at the home of the NFL’s Cowboys.
