Sandblasters split non-league double-header

The Three Rivers Sandblasters split a non-league double-header with the Eugene Challengers Saturday afternoon in Florence. The Challengers claimed game one 10-3. Jonathan Bennison was perfect at the plate going four-for-four with one RBI.

The Sandblasters held on for a 7-6 win in the nightcap. Zach Inskeep and Ricky Jones were each two-for-three at the plate. Inskeep had two RBI; Jones scored twice.

The Sandblasters will face the Mid Valley Rockets this afternoon at Jiggs Dodson Field in Florence at four. The pregame show on KCST is at 3:45.

Emeralds win two, drop one

The Eugene Emeralds took two out of three from the Tri City Dust Devils over the weekend at PK Park. The Ems won 7-1 Friday; 7-4 Saturday; before losing 8-2 yesterday. Game four of the five game series is this evening at PK Park.

Summer softball success

The Siuslaw 16-and-under Summer Fast Pitch softball team coached by Sean and Jodi O’Mara won the championship at the National UFO Weekend Tournament in Newberg. The 11-member team is made up of players mainly from Florence, but includes two from North Bend. They finished second in pool play Saturday, then worked their way through the bracket yesterday, eventually defeating the Corvallis Shock 12-3 in the final game.
