ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Kole Calhoun scored the winning run on a wild pitch by Tom Wilhelmsen in the 10th inning after Albert Pujols grounded into a bases-loaded double play against a five-man infield, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 yesterday. Johnny Giavotella led off the 10th with a line-drive single off the glove of Wilhelmsen (1-2). Calhoun followed with a hit-and-run single that put runners at the corners, and Mike Trout was intentionally walked for the second straight time.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) – Riquna Williams’ step-back jumper put Tulsa up by two with 10.9 seconds left, and the Shock held off the Seattle Storm 93-89 yesterday to tie the franchise record with their eighth straight victory. The Shock also had an eight-game winning streak while based in Detroit in 2003.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Fanendo Adi scored twice in a 3-minute span in the second half to helpo the Portland Timbers beat the Seattle Sounders 4-1 yesterday. Adi made it 2-1 in the 74th minute. Darlington Nagbe shrugged off a defender to carry the ball toward the goal and passed to Adi near the penalty spot. The forward sent a one-time shot curling past diving goalkeeper Stefan Frei and into the upper right corner.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Justin Gatlin breezed to the 200-meter title in the U.S. championship in a meet-record 19.57 seconds yesterday. Gatlin pointed at the clock after finishing, just to make sure everyone saw his speedy time. He dominated the race, taking the lead before the turn. Training partner Isiah Young was second and Wallace Spearmon third.
