SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Students living in the United States without legal permission could qualify for state financial aid under a measure that has cleared the Oregon Senate. Lawmakers decided two years ago to let Oregon high school graduates pay in-state tuition at public universities regardless of their immigration status, but they didn’t qualify for state-funded scholarships.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a 64-year-old Tigard (TYE-gard) man has died while fishing for halibut on a boat 25 miles off the Oregon coast. Troopers identified the man who died yesterday as Richard Enderle. The fishing boat was off Newport when the man became unresponsive yesterday due to an unspecified medical issue. Others on the boat applied CPR until the Coast Guard and other medical staff arrived but the man was later pronounced dead.

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (AP) – Lake Oswego police are searching for the owner of a friendly bearded dragon found sunning himself in a public golf course parking lot. The Oregonian reports that the lizard, named Hector by officers, was picked up June 15 and still remains in custody with no one coming forward to spring him. Officers are urging anyone missing a friendly bearded dragon or who knows where Hector may have come from to call Lake Oswego’s 911 dispatch center.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers have selected Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Arizona, with the 23rd pick of the NBA draft. Hollis-Jefferson played two seasons at Arizona, where he averaged 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Small forward became a position of need for Portland this week after the Blazers traded Nicolas Batum to Charlotte for Gerald Henderson and Noah Vonleh.
