SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. Kate Brown says “there simply isn’t a path forward” for a proposal to raise taxes, pay for transportation projects and repeal a carbon-reduction program. Republicans have been united in demanding that the low-carbon fuel standard be repealed as a condition for them supporting a gas tax hike to pay for road and bridge construction. The fuel standard was signed by Brown just three months ago and requires a 10 percent reduction in emissions from cars and trucks.

MOLALLA, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County sheriff’s officer says three men have been pulled from a car that collided with another vehicle, then plunged down a 40-foot embankment to the Molalla River below. Two passengers were flown to area hospitals. The spokesman said one was considered in critical condition last night. The 21-year-old driver was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A southern Oregon fire official says a visitor has died after he backed up too far while taking a photo at a scenic viewpoint and fell more than 75 feet. The Medford Mail Tribune reports that a Jackson County Fire District 3 spokeswoman says the man fell from a viewpoint near the Mill Creek Falls Scenic Area outside Prospect. The man was not immediately identified.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Marion County sheriff’s officer says a 24-year-old Salem man accused of beheading his mother’s cat has been arrested. He says deputies responded after neighbors reported the man knocked on their door, covered in blood and wearing only boxer shorts. Deputies found the man covered in scratches and bite marks. They later found the decapitated cat inside the home.
