SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon legislators are moving forward with a bill setting up the state’s legal marijuana market. After months of negotiations, House lawmakers have approved a measure creating regulations for both medical and recreational marijuana. The bill includes a compromise that allows local jurisdictions to bar sales of marijuana if at least 55 percent of their residents voted against Measure 91 in last year’s election.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Springfield have identified a man who was hospitalized after officers found him at a house where the bodies of two people were stored in a freezer. Police say 38-year-old Jeremy Ringquist had not been charged with a crime. The man lived at the house with his parents but a police spokesman says he couldn’t confirm the bodies were those of the missing parents.

BRIGHTWOOD, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County sheriff’s spokesman says a tanker-trailer rig carrying liquid asphalt has jack-knifed on a road near Brightwood and some of the liquid asphalt has spilled down an embankment and into the Sandy River. Crews were working last night to remove the vehicle. Oregon Department of Environmental Quality officials have been called to the scene to determine impact and clean-up procedures.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – A sheriff’s spokesman says a 13-year-old Port Angeles, Washington, boy pulled from the water at an Oregon park has died. KATU-TV reports that a Multnomah County sheriff’s spokesman identified the boy who died as Aaron Peters. The boy was with a group of about 30 other young people when he tried to swim across the Sandy River at Oxbow Park in Gresham, east of Portland.
