SEATTLE (AP) – Joe Blanton pitched six-plus innings of two-hit ball, Alcides Escobar had three hits and the Kansas City Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 4-1 last night. Blanton (2-0) struck out seven and worked into the seventh inning before being lifted after allowing a leadoff double.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Kansas City Royals have shuffled right-handed relievers, calling up Michael Mariot from Triple-A Omaha and sending down Aaron Brooks. The Royals made the moves before last night’s game at Seattle.

SEATTLE (AP) – Mariners right fielder Nelson Cruz left in the seventh inning of last night’s game against the Kansas City Royals with a tight right hamstring. Dustin Ackley pinch-hit for Cruz in the bottom of the seventh after the first-year Mariner fielded his position in the top half of the inning. Cruz entered the game hitting .315 with 19 home runs and 44 RBI.

SEATTLE (AP) – Washington quarterback Cyler Miles has decided to retire from college football due to a chronic hip injury. The school said the hip injury has persisted through Miles’ career and doctors have advised him not to keep playing. Miles was suspended for spring practice last year after his role in two on-campus assaults in February 2014. In a statement, Miles said he is disappointed the ailment will end his career, but he intends to finish his degree. Miles had taken a leave from the Washington program after the 2014 season.
