UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) – Jordan Spieth (speeth) has claimed his second major of the year after rebounding from a disastrous double-bogey at the par-3 17th at Chambers Bay. The 21-year-old birdied on No. 18 and then watched Dustin Johnson three-putt to miss his chance to win or force a playoff. Spieth shot 1-under 69 to finish at 5-under par.

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) – All the energy and effort Jason Day needed to get through his third round caught up with the Australian on the final day of the U.S. Open. Still feeling the effects of vertigo, Day couldn’t muster up the energy needed for the final round and closed with a 4-over 74 after shooting a remarkable 68 in the third round.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Houston Astros beat the Seattle Mariners 6-2 with the help of homers from Colby Rasmus and George Springer. Logan Morrison scored twice for the Mariners. Nelson Cruz singled him home in the first and Robinson Cano had a sacrifice fly in the fifth. J.A. Happ took the loss, allowing two earned runs in five innings.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Phoenix Mercury beat the Seattle Storm 84-72 with 22 points from DeWanna Bonner and 15 from Candice Dupree. The Mercury pulled away with a 16-5 run in the middle of the second quarter to a 38-28 lead. Sue Bird rallied the Storm within 71-69 with 5:18 left when she put back her own missed 3-point attempt, but Phoenix closed on a 13-3 burst.
