PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former Portland city worker who provided money to a terrorist involved in a suicide bombing is scheduled to be sentenced today. Reaz Khan pleaded guilty in February to being an accessory after the fact to the bombing that killed about 30 people in Pakistan and injured another 300. The maximum possible sentence is 15 years.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An 18-wheel commercial truck driver who plunged about 50 feet from a Portland freeway interchange into a parking lot has filed a $7 million lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Transportation. The Oregonian reports that David Lee Sitton blames the poor design of the Interstate 84 ramp that merges onto Interstate 5 northbound for his crash in 2013.

BURNS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a 71-year-old Northern California motorcyclist has died in eastern Oregon after colliding with another motorcycle apparently being ridden by his traveling companions. Troopers say a motorcycle operated by Steven Gale collided yesterday afternoon with the rear of another motorcycle on U.S. 20 near Burns.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Construction of the Oregon Zoo’s elephant lands is expected to continue next week after a family of birds delayed the major project. KPTV-TV reports that a pair of barn swallows were discovered in the zoo’s old elephant barn last month. The birds are a federally protected species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The chicks have hatched and left the nest.
