SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A proposal permitting pharmacists to prescribe hormonal birth control is advancing through the Legislature. The bill allows women to skip their doctor’s visit for a birth control prescription. A pharmacist could prescribe oral birth control or hormonal patches after she completes a 20-question risk-screening assessment. It cleared a Senate panel Wednesday.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Health insurance premiums are poised to go up for 220,000 Oregonians who buy their own coverage. State regulators on Thursday unveiled their proposed rates for the individual market next year. The rates cover people who don’t get insurance from an employer or the government. The Oregonian reports that in some cases, the state is telling insurance companies that their rates are too low and must be raised. The prices are still subject to public comment and formal approval.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Court of Appeals has revived a lawsuit filed by a man who alerted police that the half-brother of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had a collection of child pornography. Edward McManus was James Auchincloss’ personal assistant. McManus sued saying he was protected by whistleblower laws and wrongly terminated.

FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Losses from a fire that damaged eight units at a recreational vehicle storage facility in Florence may total more than $5 million. Fire officials tell the Eugene Register-Guard that Tuesday’s fire at Pacific Pines RV Park and Storage appears to have started in a delivery van in one of the units.
