PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland State University student has accused the school of treating him differently because he is of Arab descent when a professor gave him a “zero” grade on an exam after he failed to present photo ID at the end of the test. The Oregonian reports that Mohamad Hariri’s lawsuit blames the poor grade and subsequent suspension for cheating as the reason he was not accepted to several dental schools. A PSU spokesman declined to discuss the allegations.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. is seeking $728,000 in restitution from a former Portland strip club operator who has pleaded guilty to helping lead a conspiracy to promote prostitution and hide cash from the IRS. The Oregonian reports that IRS agents determined that Lawrence Owen and his co-conspirators hid $5 million in taxable business receipts from the IRS, causing a total income tax underpayment of about $1.5 million.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A woman is facing criminal mistreatment charges in Portland after police say she left her bedridden mother-in-law alone for two days while she went to meet her husband who had just gotten out of jail. KPTV-TV reports that Joanne Stillson was arraigned on the charge yesterday. Court documents say a neighbor reported that the 78-year-old woman’s caretaker had not been seen since the previous day.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – With the slogan, “Educate Before You Recreate,” the Oregon Liquor Control Commission has launched a $350,000 public education campaign on the legal use of marijuana. Although it will be legal for anyone over the age of 21 to possess and use marijuana starting July 1, it is not yet legal for anyone but medical marijuana patients to buy it.
