SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Legislature has approved a bill automatically enrolling Oregonians in a retirement plan if their employer doesn’t already offer one. The bill passed with support only from Democrats, who say people are much more likely to save for retirement if they’re automatically enrolled. Democrats say their bill will ensure people are prepared for retirement after a lifetime of work.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon Department of Justice report says the state’s former top bureaucrat, Michael Jordan, never asked a state technology manager to delete messages in former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s email account. Michael Rodgers has said he gave digital copies of 6,000 Kitzhaber emails to Willamette Week because they were public records and he feared they would be deleted. Two district attorneys have announced that they won’t file charges against Rodgers.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police arrested a 28-year-old man accused of killing two people at a home north of Grants Pass. A detective says troopers responded to a report of a possibly deceased person and found the bodies of 75-year-old Jerry Jackson and 73-year-old Joann Jackson. Fitzgerald says detectives identified Brian Killian as a suspect and he was arrested at a different location in Josephine County.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – A driver who smelled smoke from the engine compartment pulled his bus off the interstate highway in Southern Oregon and safely evacuated 18 passengers before the vehicle burst into flames. Firefighters say the vehicle was carrying passengers from Southern California to Portland, and the fire broke out at an Interstate 5 exit in Roseburg. Nobody was hurt.
