PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former cheerleader from the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego has pleaded guilty to helping a 31-year-old man take her former schoolmate to Washington for prostitution. The Oregonian reports that 20-year-old Julia Haner is scheduled to be sentenced on September 28. Haner was accused of recruiting for prostitution a girl she used to ride the school bus with to Lake Oswego High School.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former Tigard businessman is set to voluntarily surrender to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in September after he admitted to taking nearly $1 million from his investors to pay for his lavish lifestyle. The Oregonian reports that Bryan Scott Gunn was sentenced to one year, eight months in prison. He was also ordered to make restitution to his victims.

TRAIL, Ore. (AP) – The Jackson County sheriff’s office in southern Oregon says a man has died after a raft overturned in the Rogue River. KDRV-TV reports that officials say a man and a woman were on the raft when it flipped over yesterday afternoon. People nearby helped the couple from the water but the man was unconscious and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Though Portland’s citywide parks smoking ban has yet to begin, Commissioner Amanda Fritz already wants to change the consequences for would-be offenders. The Oregonian reports that the ban will include e-cigarettes and nicotine vaporizers, chewing tobacco, snuff – tobacco in any form. It’s set to begin July 1. Fritz is set to propose several amendments tomorrow that would remove the possibility of a misdemeanor fine or park exclusion.
