CLEVELAND (AP) – Giovanny Urshela hit his first major league home run, Shaun Marcum and his bullpen combined on a two-hitter and the Cleveland Indians beat the Seattle Mariners 6-0 yesterday. Urshela is 2 for 8 with three RBIs. He was called up from Triple-A Columbus when third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall was sent down.

CLEVELAND (AP) – Seattle Mariners slugger Nelson Cruz, who leads the American League with 18 home runs, is out of the lineup for the second straight game because of back spasms. Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon decided to give him another day off. Cruz, who is batting .326 with 39 RBIs in 58 games, could return today against Houston.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Tricia Liston scored 15 points to lead five players in double figures and the Minnesota Lynx rolled to a 94-70 victory over the Seattle Storm last night. Minnesota (3-0) never trailed en route to its 10th straight home win. Seattle (1-2) shot just 38 percent.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Akela Jones of Kansas State won the collegiate title in just the second heptathlon of her career and DeAnna Price of Southern Illinois set a meet record in winning the hammer yesterday as the women took over competition at the revamped NCAA track and field championships. Jones, from Barbados, held a big lead after the first day and stayed there throughout yesterday’s final three events in the seven-event competition, finishing with 6,371 points.
