SEATTLE (AP) – Chris Archer became the first pitcher in more than 100 years to reach double-digits in strikeouts without a walk in three straight starts, leading the Tampa Bay Rays over the Seattle Mariners 3-1 yesterday. Archer (7-4) fanned 11 with zero walks in seven innings. STATS found no other pitcher with such a string in its research dating to 1914.

DENVER (AP) – Adeiny Hechavarria hit a two-out homer in the 10th inning, lifting the Miami Marlins to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies yesterday. Hechavarria drove a slider from reliever Boone Logan (0-2) into the trees in straightaway center field. It was Hechavarria’s first homer since April 25.

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) – An ESPN report says U.S. women’s national team star Hope Solo was combative with officers after her arrest last year on accusations that she assaulted her half-sister and her teenage nephew, an incident during which authorities also described Solo as the “primary aggressor.” Solo initially faced two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence in the altercation at her half-sister’s house last June, though those charges were dismissed on procedural grounds earlier this year.

UNDATED (AP) – The Pac-12 teams will use injury spotters during football games that will monitor teams with video technology and communicate with coaches and medical personnel. The Pac-12 university presidents and chancellors approved the spotter system at the conference’s summer meetings this weekend.
