Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police in Salem say someone painted graffiti referencing the Islamic State under a play structure at an elementary school. KPTV reports that police say the graffiti that read “ISIL we R here” was painted last weekend. The message was quickly cleaned up yesterday. Police say they know of no activity by the group in the area and haven’t previously seen such graffiti.

DORENA, Ore. (AP) – A Lane County Sheriff’s official says a 19-year-old University of Oregon student drowned when he jumped from Wildwood Falls into the water below and did not surface. The Register-Guard in Eugene reports a Lane County dive team recovered Sidney Anthony Nelson’s body at the bottom of a deep pool at the base of the falls after receiving a report about someone jumping from the falls Sunday.

SPRAY, Ore. (AP) – Eastern Oregon authorities say a 30-year-old man is believed to have been swept away in the John Day River. Wheeler County deputies were told Sunday that a man from Fossil had been swept away. Efforts to find the man Sunday and yesterday turned up nothing. Due to recent heavy rains, the river is unusually fast-moving and hazardous to swimmers and boaters.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon woman was saved by some quick thinking when she fell 30 feet while hiking in the Columbia River Gorge. KPTV-TV reports that 19-year-old April Meads says she held on to a root for about 45 minutes while others went to get help. Members of the Portland-based Mazamas Climbing Group, which teaches mountaineering education, were nearby and fashioned a rope out of clothing to help Meads up.
