SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Two sizeable earthquakes struck off the coast of Oregon overnight but officials say no tsunamis were triggered. A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck at 12:52 a.m. and a second quake measuring magnitude 5.5 hit at 4:46 a.m. The U.S. Geological Survey says both quakes hit a fault that’s west of the Oregon and Washington coast. Both were about 6 miles deep, which is relatively shallow.

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) – The Chelan County Mountain Rescue team in Washington was busy over the weekend with two separate calls for sick and injured climbers. The sheriff’s office says the first came in yesterday when an Oregon climber was suffering a diabetic episode. A helicopter team found him at about 7,700 feet. They brought in a second chopper to do a hoist extrication. They moved Michael Meronek of Portland to a staging area where he was checked out by medics. Later a Seattle woman fell while rock climbing and broke a leg and ribs.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Police say a body recovered from Eugene’s sewage system has been identified as a 24-year-old man who went missing in February. A crew performing maintenance found Noah Dewitt’s body in a well at a pump station last week.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An 18-year-old is dead after being pulled from Detroit Lake over the weekend. Marion County deputies say Cody Ellingsworth was swimming with friends Saturday afternoon when he went under. His friends were able to find him and started CPR immediately, but he died at a hospital. He would have graduated from Salem’s Sprague High School this month.
