SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The state Senate has approved a bill imposing stricter regulations on the Oregon’s medical marijuana program as lawmakers get ready for the legalization of pot for recreational use. Key lawmakers in the House oppose it because the bill would allow cities and counties to ban marijuana stores inside their boundaries. Supporters of the bill say Oregon’s minimally regulated medical marijuana program produces excess plants that end up on the black market.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A House panel has given bipartisan support to legislation allowing women to get birth control without a doctor’s prescription. The measure would give pharmacists the power to prescribe and dispense contraception directly to women. If the bill is signed by the governor, Oregon could become the second state, after California, to pass a measure allowing women to access contraception without a visit to her doctor.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Senate committee has approved a measure doubling Oregon’s statute of limitations on certain sexual assault crimes to 12 years. Sexual assault victims and victim support groups called for an amendment extending the statute to at least 20 years. Critics of the bill say the current limits recognize that the memory of witnesses gets worse over time and evidence such as texts disappears.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – A SkyWest Airlines flight from Eugene, Oregon, to Denver has suffered damage after it diverted to Boise, Idaho, because of a medical issue and made a hard landing. A Boise Airport spokesman says the plane suffered minor damage. Officials then found mechanical issues, so all the passengers had to be put on other flights.
