SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A proposal advancing in the Oregon Legislature would close a loophole in state law that allowed a man to go unpunished after taking photos up a teenager’s skirt. Under the bill, surreptitiously taking pictures up women’s dresses without their consent would be classified as a misdemeanor. An Oregon judge had previously found the act didn’t violate the state’s existing voyeurism laws.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a former Portland police officer who seriously wounded a man after mistakenly loading lethal rounds into a beanbag shotgun has killed himself. Police in Washougal, Washington, say that a train struck 43-year-old Dane Reister (RY’-stur). His body was found Monday morning, and the medical examiner ruled it a suicide. The city of Portland paid $2.3 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the wounded man, William Monroe.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police have launched an effort to get homeless campers to remove their street camps. The Oregonian reports that police say the enforcement of anti-loitering and camping laws comes after numerous public complaints over large, visible homeless camps. He says the problem may not have worsened but the camps are more visible to the public during the longer days and warmer weather of approaching summer.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State University is pulling its institutional support for an on-board solar panel vehicle program that they say is losing industry interest. The Gazette-Times reports the College of Engineering dean says the university’s April 28 decision was partially due to the declining number of universities that are participating in a solar vehicle challenges.
