EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A former professional mixed martial arts fighter has pleaded guilty to reduced charges in the shooting death of an unarmed man after a Springfield traffic crash. The Register-Guard of Eugene reports Gerald Strebendt entered the plea yesterday to criminally negligent homicide with a firearm. He was sentenced to four years and 10 months in prison, but will receive credit for time served.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Health Authority has lifted a health advisory issued for a lake southeast of Salem. The Oregonian reports that the advisory for Detroit Lake was lifted just before the typical big lake weekend over Memorial Day. The advisory was issued last week because of a blue-green algae bloom.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Two state agencies are investigating aerial spraying on private timberlands in the southern Coast Range. There a member of the spraying crew says he had to regularly take shelter from herbicides sprayed from a helicopter. The truck driver told officials and The Oregonian that he went to a hospital complaining of blisters in his mouth and a swollen throat.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has advanced a measure limiting the reasons young students can be suspended or expelled. Under the bill, students in the 5th grade or lower can be expelled for causing serious physical harm to students or employees, or posing a threat of harm, or when expulsion is required by law.
