BALTIMORE (AP) – Steve Pearce hit his first career grand slam, J.J. Hardy singled in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning and the Baltimore Orioles weathered a lengthy rain delay and a comeback by the Seattle Mariners in a 5-4 victory yesterday. After Pearce connected in the first inning for a 4-0 lead, the Orioles managed only one more hit until Chris Davis led off the eighth with a single off Danny Farquhar (0-3). Davis advanced on a groundout and scored on an awkward slide after Hardy bounced a single up the middle.

UNDATED (AP) – The Portland Timbers will travel to Canada to face off against Toronto FC at BMO Field tomorrow. The Timbers hope to shake off their 3-1 loss against the Houston Dynamo.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Stephen Curry scored 33 points to turn back another spectacular performance by James Harden, and the Golden State Warriors held off the Houston Rockets 99-98 last night to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals. Harden rallied the Rockets from 17 points down in the second quarter and had a chance to finish off the comeback in the final seconds of the fourth. Instead, Klay Thompson and Curry trapped Harden, who lost the ball as time expired.

TORONTO (AP) – R.A. Dickey snapped a two-start losing streak with a complete game, Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run home run and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-4 last night. Danny Valencia added a solo homer as the Blue Jays won for the second time in nine games.
