BALTIMORE (AP) – Jimmy Paredes homered and had a career-high four RBIs, and the Baltimore Orioles overcame a home run by former teammate Nelson Cruz in a 9-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. Paredes singled in two runs in the fourth inning and added a two-run drive off Danny Farquhar (0-2) in the sixth.

BALTIMORE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners bolstered their depth behind the plate, acquiring catcher Welington Castillo from the Chicago Cubs for right-handed relief pitcher Yoervis Medina. Castillo will back up Mike Zunino, who brought a .179 batting average into last night’s game against the Orioles. Medina will report to Triple-A Iowa with the Cubs organization.

DENVER (AP) – Nick Hundley hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and the Colorado Rockies beat Philadelphia 6-5 last night to snap the Phillies’ six-game winning streak. Hundley lined a 1-2 pitch from reliever Justin De Fratus (0-1) into the seats in left-center. Hundley also had an RBI single in the first.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Young players for the four Western Hockey League teams in Washington will be exempted from certain labor laws that would have restricted their practice, conditioning, playing time and made them subject to the minimum wage. Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill that covers all players between 16 and 20 years of age who play for a team in a regional, national or international league.
