SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A Springfield man who struck and killed three children with his pickup truck has been cited for careless driving. The Eugene Register-Guard reports that Larry LaThorpe was cited Sunday and is expected to appear in court June 8. Prosecutors said earlier this month they would not pursue criminal charges for the crash that killed the children aged 8, 5 and 3.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland woman accused of leaving her 23-month-old daughter in a tent outside has pleaded not guilty. The Oregonian reports that Taylor Marie Marcus has been indicted on charges including possession of methamphetamine. Court documents show a called told police on May 7 that a child could be heard screaming from a nearby home’s backyard. The girl was alone in a tent confined to a playpen. The outside temperature was 45 degrees.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Medford police say a California woman is accused of ending a verbal argument by pouring cooking oil on her mother, then threatening to set her on fire. The Oregonian reports that Elsa Roberts was visiting her mother in Medford when the two began arguing about when Roberts would return to California. Police say they found two meth pipes in Roberts’ purse.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it will no longer issue advisories against swimming in 11 Oregon reservoirs it manages or otherwise using the water during blue-green algae blooms. The corps also says it won’t test the reservoirs to see if levels of cyanobacteria exceed state health standards. Corps officials tell the Medford Mail Tribune that one problem is blue-green algae levels vary from place to place in the same lake.
