ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — Police and FBI agents on the north Oregon coast have arrested a Washington state man accused of abducting a 15-year-old California girl he met online, sexually assaulting her and finally letting her go in Oregon. The Daily Astorian reports 48-year-old Russell Deviney of Everett was arrested yesterday near Cannon Beach.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Southern Oregon jurors have convicted a man of killing his girlfriend despite the defense contention that he was only trying to stop the woman’s drunken nagging. The Medford Mail Tribune reports jurors took about four hours to convict Robert Simonson in the 2013 fatal shooting of Kimberly Staack in a Rogue River apartment.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Drought Council has endorsed seven more county drought declarations and sent them on to the governor. The council yesterday forwarded drought declarations from Deschutes, Grant, Jackson, Josephine, Lane, Morrow and Umatilla counties to the governor’s office.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Farmers on a federal irrigation project straddling the Oregon-California border will get less than half the water they would expect in a plentiful year. The Klamath Water Users Association says it was notified this week by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation that the mountain snowpack is rapidly declining and estimates of water availability have dropped.
