SEATTLE (AP) – Felix Hernandez became the fourth-youngest player to reach 2,000 career strikeouts while giving up two runs over seven innings to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 4-3 win against the Oakland Athletics yesterday. Hernandez, at 29 years, 32 days old, is behind only Bert Blyleven, Sam McDowell and Walter Johnson, who were all 28 when they reached 2,000 strikeouts.

UNDATED (AP) – The Portland Timbers are going to keep up the momentum started by this weekend’s 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact. The Timbers are preparing this week to travel to Texas, where they will face off against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday.

UNDATED (AP) – The Seattle Sounders will travel to Vancouver to play against the Whitecaps on Saturday. The Sounders are coming off a 2-3 loss to the Columbus Crew in Ohio.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – DeAndre Jordan scored 26 points, surviving Houston’s intentional-foul fest in the first half, and the Los Angeles Clippers won 128-95 last night to take a 3-1 lead and put the Rockets on the brink of elimination in the Western Conference semifinals. Jordan made 14 of 34 free throws, attempting an NBA playoff-record 28 in the first half, and had 17 rebounds. Blake Griffin added 21 points, J.J. Redick had 18 points and Chris Paul finished with 15 points and 12 assists in the Clippers’ second straight blowout win in the best-of-7 series.
