PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Police say a bicyclist’s leg was severed when he was struck yesterday morning by a pickup truck. Police say the cyclist was taken to a Portland hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say a man driving a pickup truck has been detained for the investigation.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s wine industry has come into its own in recent years, spurring the growth of wineries and newly planted acres of vineyards. Now the industry wants in on the trans-Pacific trade agreement that President Barack Obama came to Oregon to promote. But critics say the deal could harm agricultural workers. Oregon’s wine industry has a $3.3 billion economic impact on the state.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Numbered, neon-green signs have been popping up along the Oregon coast as part of a program to help visitors identify their location in an emergency. A North Lincoln Fire & Rescue Captain tells The Oregonian that many tourists don’t know a specific beach’s name or other reference points. A caller to 9-1-1 can now, for example, say they see a big sign with the number 135, and emergency responders know where to go.
BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) – Authorities are investigating the death of a 28-year-old inmate at the Baker County Jail. The Oregon State Police say it is working with the Baker County District Attorney’s Office to determine what happened to Joshua Pantle. An autopsy is scheduled for today. No other details were released.
